Automatic Color Pattern Recognition for Ribbonized Multifiber Optic Cables

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to showcase an algorithm for the automatic color pattern recognition of a ribbonized multifiber optic cable. The method is intended to be used in a system that can determine whether a group of optical fibers is correctly aligned according to a predetermined pattern, with the lowest possible level of user input. After placing a ribbon multifiber cable under a real-time camera recording, the individual frames of the video are analyzed and pre-processed. The final result of the recognition algorithm aims to automatically verify the arrangement, obtaining 94.5% accuracy.
