Increasing the Reliability of Drone-Based Applications
Abstract
This article examines the possibility of improving the reliability of a drone connection in the event of a degraded radio link environment. Drone-based applications can be of serious importance in a number of cases of responsible tasks, such as fire surveillance in remote and/or inaccessible areas, inspection of critical infrastructure that poses a risk, video surveillance in the event of some kind of threat, etc. In these cases, the reliability of the connection can be improved by using antennas whose radiation patterns minimize the influence of environmental interference factors. Changing the direction of the signals is proposed, which suppresses external interference, the sources of which are located on the earth’s surface, and also allows expanding the spatial range of the radio link. A summary of the requirements for antennas that allow such an approach is made too.
